Spring has finally sprung, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting sunnier and flowers everywhere are starting to bloom! But what does all of this mean for our skin? When people think of spring they probably think of warmer weather, flowers and hay fever being out of control! but do you know how your skin changes? Well today we are going to give you a look into how weather seasons effect your skin and look at what you can do to help keep it healthier all year round.

Acne, dryness, increase in oil, Dermatitis or Eczema……any of these ring a bell?

From cold to warm temperatures

When going from warm to cold, the sudden drop in temperature and humidity can be a shock to both our bodies and our skin…brrrrrr…..and leave it struggling to maintain moisture levels. This can further be aggravated by hotter showers (guilty!) and the heating on in the house or at work on all day (guilty again!). If the skin is left lacking moisture for too long it will start to appear dry, flaky and dull looking in colour…..which has our makeup cracking on our face (definitely guilty!). What we need to do in these months is increase our hydration to keep a healthy barrier to the skin so as to avoid common conditions such as rashes, Eczema and Dermatitis which are common conditions to flare up.

How can we keep it glowing?

It is vital to keep your skin hydrated and not just your face but your whole body! When it comes to skin care, it is really important to look for super hydrating ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid or even a hydrating face oil. These types of products will increase the moisture level in your skin quicker and help to get rid of that tight feeling that you may experience after cleansing. It’s also a good idea to have the right exfoliant and mask and use them every 3-4 days to make sure that all the dead skin cells are being removed properly.

For the body, a body scrub full of rich oils to nourish the skin and a heavy moisturiser are the best way to keep your skin hydrated and healthy through the colder months. We also cannot forget our internal water levels! Investing in a good quality Essential Fatty Acid (EFA’s) supplement will set you ahead of the game in keeping healthier skin all year round.

From cold to warm temperatures

Now let’s look at the other way, cold to warm. We find that the opposite tends to occur with the warmer weather helping to thin out our skin’s natural oils and in some cases make it feeling a little more oily than usual. The increased humidity and heat can see us sweating more so make sure that you are using the right cleanser and both morning and night. Some can experience breakouts but more often than not we see the skin clearing up with the increased moisture in the air.

How can we keep it glowing?

When we look at our skin care for the warmer months, it is important to remember that our number one skin care product should ALWAYS be wearing Sunscreen. We know that a lot of people think it makes there skin feel oily or don’t like the texture but if you find the right physical sunscreen you will never look back……and never have problems with sun spots or pigmentation when you are older. The most important thing to look for is an SPF 30 with a high percentage of Zinc. Zinc is not only a fantastic ingredient to protect your skin from the sun, but also is great for acne as it helps with calming the skin. Invest again in a good quality exfoliant to keep those cells turning over and colour looking vibrant for summer.

Make sure you keep celebrating your skin 365 days a year and get the right products for you. Keeping skincare customised and simple is the way to go.
